This format is replacing group lessons. These lessons are designed for children ages 2 and up who are NOT on the swim team. If you swimmer is able to complete a length (25 meters) of the pool, we recommend enrolling your athlete on the swim team as they have tested out of our swim lesson program. Swim team members are not eligible for learn-to-swim lessons.

The following guidelines will be used to determine your child’s progress as they move through the swim lesson format:
Level 1: Introduction to Water Skills
Objective: Establish basic comfort, safety, and breath control in the water
Skills:
- Safe entry/exit from the pool (ladder, side)
- Full face submersion; blowing bubbles (3 seconds)
- Supported front and back floats
- Front and back glides (1-2 body lengths, assisted)
- Alternating arm and leg actions on front and back (introduction to propulsion)
- Basic water safety (not going into water without permission, recognize lifeguars, understanding shallow vs. deep water)
Level 2: Fundamental Aquatic Skills
Objective: Increase independence and introduce unsupported movement
Skills:
- Enter/exit water independently (including jumping into chest deep water)
- Fully submerge and retrieve objects
- Unsupported front and back floats (5-10 seconds)
- Front and back glides (2-3 body lengths, unassisted)
- Combined arm and leg movements on front and back with forward propulsion (5 body lengths)
- Rolling over (front to back)
- Treading water (brief, assisted)
- Enhanced water safety (safe exits after jumping in, awareness of personal limits)
Level 3: Stroke Development
Objective: Transition from basic movement to recognizable stroke mechanics and endurance
Skills:
- Jump into deep water and recover to surface
- Rotary breathing (introduction and development)
- Front crawl (basic form with side breathing, 15 meters)
- Elementary backstroke (15 meters)
- Backstroke (15 meters)
- Dolphin kick (introduction)
- Treading water (15-30 seconds)
- Survival skills (changing directions while swimming, rolling from front to back for breathing, reaching assists)
