We continue to follow up on the plans we outlined in the annual meeting last February to re-build the tennis courts. As we discussed at the meeting, the Board incorporated this top priority into our capital planning so that it can be done from our general fund, with no need for a special membership assessment. This is the next key phase of investing in our club for the future, following the construction of the new pools in the late 1990s. For those who were unable to attend the meeting, the background/history is included below. We have engaged a highly-recommended tennis court construction consultant to help us plan, design, bid, and monitor the construction activity, which will be scheduled for the coming spring.....weather- permitting, we hope to be completed in time for the Memorial Day opening. We will provide further updates at the next annual meeting. Enjoy the rest of the season! Mike Wright for the Board of Governors History: Most responding members to the 2007/8 survey showed an interest in capital improvements for the pavilion and tennis courts; however, there was little interest in outside funding vehicles for those improvements. At the time the Board looked into cost-effective options and resurfaced the tennis courts to extend their playable life as much as possible. In reviewing our needs, financial position and general economic conditions last year, and after looking into all the alternatives, we determined the re- building of the tennis courts to be our top capital priority. They have passed their expected 20 yr lifespan (they were last upgraded in 1984) and will only continue to deteriorate with time, detracting from the overall health and appearance of the Club. The two local clubs that closed and one that almost closed had/have neglected facilities. The replacement of the pavilion is more of a discretionary item subject to the willingness of the general membership to support an assessment to improve the Club - while the current pavilion is not ideal, it is functional and part of the original design and appearance of the Club.
